After undergoing hair restoration, it’s normal to have some questions, especially about sleep. One of the most common concerns of our patients is how to sleep after a hair transplant to ensure that the newly implanted follicles aren’t damaged while they rest. In this article, we give you the keys to sleeping soundly after your surgery with Dr. Panno.

The Semi-Reclined Position: Your Best Ally

For the first 3 to 4 nights, the golden rule is not to sleep completely flat. The ideal position is at an angle of about 45 degrees, supported by several cushions or a reclining backrest. This position has a dual purpose: it prevents the recipient area (where the hair was placed) from rubbing against the pillow and, above all, reduces facial swelling or edema, promoting natural drainage of the fluids used during the surgery.

The Travel Pillow Trick

If you’re afraid of turning over abruptly in your sleep, Dr. Panno always recommends a simple yet foolproof accessory: a U-shaped travel pillow. Placed around your neck, it blocks sideways head movement. This protects both the grafted and donor areas, ensuring nothing touches the follicular units during the most critical healing period.

When will I be able to sleep normally again?

Patience is key to hair restoration. Generally, by the seventh or tenth day, the follicles are secure enough for you to resume your usual sleeping position. However, at our hair transplant clinic in Marbella and Malaga, we closely monitor your progress to tell you exactly what stage you’re in. Remember that following these rest guidelines is just as important as the surgery itself to guarantee an aesthetically flawless result.
